What does the refugee crisis mean for the global economy

Postby johnalexei » 06 Feb 2021 18:36

It is quite common for anyone, including journalists and commentators to use the term "refugee crisis" when referring to current events that are taking place in Europe. However, the crisis that is taking place in Europe today is a much greater problem, which is taking place in all parts of the world. The term "refugee" is commonly used by people from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to describe people who have fled their native countries due to violence and conflict. The term "refugee" can also refer to situations and difficulties in the hosting of large numbers of forcibly displaced people. These can be either internally displaced, asylum seekers, or even any other large group of displaced people.

The term "refugee" has been widely used in terms of political and social strategies in Europe to address the immediate needs of those communities affected by the refugee crisis in Europe and beyond. While most governments and organizations have thus far adopted a position of not taking a position on the term "refugee", various local and international community organizations such as the European Union (EU), the Red Cross, the International Rescue Organization (IRC) and various non-government organizations (NGOs) are adopting a more proactive stance on the issue. Some of these organizations are participating in an inter-ministerial team that is being formed to coordinate activities between the government, ministries, and organizations on this matter. This inter-ministerial team is also tasked with planning and executing a multi-stakeholder civil society dialogue on the future of refugees and how the communities in Europe can cope with the influx of large numbers of people.

Another part of the effort focuses on providing education and information to the general public on the issues and ways in which the refugee crisis is affecting them. Several local and international organizations have also launched various programs to help displaced people in Europe and elsewhere in the world to find alternative means of survival. Most recently, an Oxfam report released in October highlighted the urgent need for countries in southern Europe to open up options for these people so that families in need do not face a life of poverty and the risk of exposure to disease and malnutrition. Several thousand people have thus far been saved from lives of extreme misery, risking their lives in risky boat trips to Europe or in trains and lorries headed for the United Kingdom.
